Today marks the first anniversary of the February Christchurch earthquake where 185 people died. Ngāti Awa gave $10,000 dollars to help with the Christchurch clean up. Aroha Te Poono of Te Teko who lived in Christchurch during the earthquake moved back to the Bay of Plenty not long after. It’s a move that she does not regret.
Koinei te rā e whakahoki ana i ngā mahara mo te rū whenua i pā ki Otautahi, kotahi rau, waru tekau ma rima ngā tāngata i mate. Mo ngā iwi o Te Waiariki, tuku rātou i ngā pūtea tautoko pēnei i a Ngāti Awa. Mo Aroha Te Poono o Te Teko tētahi i noho ki Otautahi i te wā i rū ai te whenua, i hoki mai ia ki te rohe o Te Moana nui a Toi whai muri, i rongo ia i te aroha mo te wā kainga.
