Police happy with results

A random police blitz targeting Western Bay of Plenty liquor outlets has resulted in a 94 per cent compliance rate.

The joint operation between police and Toi Te Ora Public Health aimed to expose outlets that sell alcohol to people aged under 18.

Police targeted 26 random liquor outlets between Te Puna and Te Puke.

Two off-licence premises were caught selling alcohol to a 15 year old female volunteer.

Western Bay of Plenty alcohol harm reduction officer sergeant Nigel McGlone says the overall compliance rate from the blitz was 94 per cent.

"I'm reasonably happy with the results. While you always hope that everyone will comply as they should, there is always the chance that someone will be lax in their procedures and sell to an underage person."

Some of the outlets included in the latest blitz were targeted because they failed previous inspections.
